John P. ""Jack"" Christie

c

John P. “Jack” Christie, age 95, formerly of Erie, passed away Monday, July 31, 2017 in Clearwater Beach, FL. He was born in Warren, PA on September 8, 1921, a son of the late William and Lois Christie.

Jack was employed by Hammermill Paper Co. for over 30 years, retiring in 1985. While residing in Erie, Jack was an active member of St. James R.C. Church, where he and his wife, Kay, coached basketball, and volunteered at various church functions. He also coached several Little League teams in Wesleyville. Jack proudly served in WWII as a Staff Sgt. in the U.S. Army Air Corp.

Jack loved fishing, golfing, bowling, and wood working. He was an avid reader, and a lifelong fan of the Cleveland Indians and the Cleveland Browns. Jack’s love of Smith hot dogs, chocolate ice cream, and maple donuts is legendary among those who knew him but Jack’s greatest love of all was his family. Each and every moment he spent with his five generations brought him immense joy.

In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Kay (Katherine) Hurn Christie; one son, Patrick Christie; one grandson, Brian Christie; and two sons-in-law, Roger Frazier and Col. Robert Poux, Jr. Jack was also preceded in death by his siblings.

Jack will be greatly missed by his family which includes his three children, Cheryl Frazier Adams (Ken), John “Jack” Christie (Peggy) and Susan Poux; his eleven grandchildren, Molly Swanson, Amy Flaherty, Lt. Col. (sel.) Matthew Frazier, Derrick Christie, Ben Frazier, Renee Poole, Christine Caserta, Patrick Christie, Robert Poux, III, Alison Marcin, and Katy Neal; his sixteen great-grandchildren, one great, great-grandson; and many nieces and nephews.

Jack’s final years in Florida would not have been possible without the love and assistance of his granddaughter, Katy Neal. Jack’s family would like to thank Katy, her husband, Chris, and her children, Ava, Ella and Max, for all the care and support they gave to our beloved Grandpa Jack.

Jack always had little nuggets of wisdom that he loved to impart to his family. We’d like to thank him for those and let him know that, in spite of it all, “We’ll keep going.”
