Gerald “Jerry” F. Watson, Jr. age, 78, of Cary, NC, formerly of Erie, passed away on Thursday, January 28, 2016 at Select Specialty Hospital. He was born in Erie on May 22, 1937, the son of the late Gerald F. and Margaret Minor Watson, Sr. Jerry attended Erie schools and was a 1955 graduate of Strong Vincent H.S. He then graduated from Penn State and received his Doctoral Degree in Meteorology from FSU. For thirty years, Jerry was employed as a Professor of Meteorology at NC State in Raleigh, NC. He enjoyed Astronomy and was instrumental in starting a well know Astronomy Club in North Carolina. He also loved to travel after retirement and would visit his cousins on many occasions in Erie. He is survived by cousins: Sheila Vaughn of Erie, Virginia Tuggy of Dallas, Mary Ross (Mel) of Rochester, NY, Cindy, Andy, and Pete Watson all of AZ. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He was “Uncle Jerry” to everyone. Private services and interment were handled at the convenience of the family under the direction of the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Rd. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
