Joseph J. Gavio, age 74, of Summit Twp., passed away Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at the Sarah A. Reed Retirement Center after a seven month battle with cancer. He was born in Erie on March 19, 1942, the son of the late Anthony and Celia Mancuso Gavio. He retired from GE as a machinist in Bldg. #13 after more than 30 years of service. He was a past member of the Corvette Club and enjoyed all types of cars, biking, working outdoors, and was a railroad buff. He was preceded in death by two brothers; Tony and Richard Gavio and one grandson Alexander Gavio. He is survived by three sons; John (Kimberly) Gavio, Erie; Joseph (Elaine) Gavio, Fairview, and James (Miriam) Gavio, Erie, six grandchildren: Nicholas, Justin, Zachary, Adam, Owen, and Jarod, two nieces Polly and Gina and his former wife Eleanor Gavio. Friends may call at the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Rd. on Sunday, May 22, 2016 from 2 to 6 p.m. and are invited there on Monday, May 23, 2016 at 10 a.m. for the Funeral Service conducted by the Rev. Chris Singer. Entombment Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the ANNA Shelter, 1555 East 10th Street, Erie, PA 16511.
