W. Joseph “Joe” McCallion W. Joseph (Joe) McCallion, 80, of Millcreek Township passed away on Friday, December 2, 2016 at Manchester Commons surrounded by his loving family. Joe was born in Erie on July 22, 1936, son of the late Walter J. and Margaret A. (Pifer) McCallion. Joe graduated from Strong Vincent High School in 1954 and attended Behrend College where he received an associate degree in Mechanical Engineering. Joe married the love of his life, Jeanne, on September 22, 1960 at Our Lady of Peace Church. Joe started his working career at GE as a draftsman, before moving to the former Elgin Electronics where he spent 30 years in various roles. He then moved to Zurn/Donn Advertising for 10 years as an account manager and then to Core Creative Advertising where he continued to work into his seventies on a part time basis. He was also the manager for the Woodridge Condominiums in Millcreek for 18 years. Joe dedicated his life to the service of his family and community. Joe was a volunteer coach with Erie Youth Hockey Association for more than 25 years, running the “Cubs” program along with fellow volunteer Dave Hetrick. Generations of youth hockey players learned to play the game under the careful supervision of Joe and Dave. The annual spring “Joe McCallion” select hockey tournament is named in his honor. He was also a long time goal judge for the Mercyhurst Women’s hockey program. Joe was a volunteer at Camp Notre Dame in Fairview PA for over 55 years and was a part of the core group of individuals who worked diligently to keep the Camp open and successful since its founding in 1960. Joe served for many years on CND’s board of directors and was a key fundraiser and general jack of all trades. Joe’s favorite job at Camp was cutting the grass, something he tackled every weekend during the camping season. Joe is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years Jeanne (Lochmann) McCallion, sister Jean Kufner and husband Chuck of McKean, son Joe McCallion and wife MIchelle (Spinelli) of Edinboro, daughter Julie Cardenas and husband Juan Carlos of Hagerstown, MD, four grandchildren, Dan and Matt McCallion, Maria and Nicole Cardenas, four step-grandchildren Monica, Vanessa, Jessica Cardenas and Gina Cardenas-Lint and many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends may call at the Dusckas- Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Road, Erie, PA 16506 on Friday, December 9th from 4 to 8 p.m. This will be followed by a Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Peace Church at 10 a.m. on Saturday, December 10th. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Camp Notre Dame, P.O. Box 74, Fairview PA 16415.
