Obituary of Donald J. Smith

Donald J. Smith, age 86, of Millcreek, passed away on Wednesday, January 18, 2017. He was born in Cleveland, OH on May 14, 1930, son of the late Ralph and Carrie Smith. Don was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Erie, where he sang in the choir. He was a tenor and sang with barbershop choruses, Presque Isle Chorale, and the Philharmonic Chorus. Don enjoyed camping with his wife with various camping clubs. He loved growing dahlias and scroll sawing. Don retired from the Millcreek School District. Don is survived by his wife of 55 years, Lois P. Smith; three daughters, Jonelle Wilkins (Richard), Jeanette Smith, and Janine Frank-Korenich (Todd); one brother, Earl Smith; three grandchildren, Rachel Wilkins, Benjamin Wilkins, and Jessica Frank; many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Don was preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph and Warren Smith. Friends may call at the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Rd, on Friday from 5 to 7 pm. Further visitation will be held at the First United Methodist Church of Erie, 707 Sassafras Street on Saturday from 10:30 am until the time of the Funeral Service at 11:30 am, conducted by the Rev. James Parkinson. Private interment will be held. Memorial contributions may be designated to The First United Methodist Church of Erie, Music Fund, 707 Sassafras Street, Erie, PA 16501.
