John Clarence Engels

John C. Engels, age 63, of Waterford Twp., passed away on Sunday, October 8, 2017 in MD on his way home from vacationing with his family in the Outer Banks from ALS which he battled for six years.

He was born in Erie on April 5, 1954, the son of Joan T. Johnson Engels of West Springfield and the late John C. Engels. John was retired as Director, Bureau of Reassessment of Erie Co.

He was a faithful member of the Jehovah’s Witness Congregation of Union City. He enjoyed his grandchildren, golfing, hunting, singing, playing music with his brother Jack, volunteering in his ministry even during his battle with ALS, gardening, grafting apple trees, and going for bike rides.

He was preceded in death by his father and one brother James Engels. John is survived by his beloved wife Kathy Ann Donnell Engels, his children: John Engels (Alexandra) of Erie, Charity Engels Sherwood (Brandon) of Waterford, Joshua Engels (Rhonda) of Warren, PA, two sisters JoAnne Engels Roney (Mitchell), Julie Engels Grace (Merle), one brother Jack Engels (Cindy), one sister-in-law Melony Engels, three grandchildren; Sullivan and Sawyer Sherwood, Sydney Engels, and one expected grandson in February.

Friends may call at the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Rd. on Thursday, October 12, 2017 from 4 until 7 p.m. and are invited to Perry Hi-Way Hose Co., 8281Oliver Road, Erie, PA 16509 on Friday, October 13, 2017 at 5:30 P.M. for the Memorial Service.  Private interment Waterford Cemetery.
