M. Romayne Martin

M. Romayne Martin, age 77, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 27, 2024. Romayne was born on December 29, 1945 in Johnstown, PA to Dorothy (Stutchel) Adams. Romayne moved to Erie, PA and became a wife and a mother soon after.

Romayne went to cosmetology school and worked as a hairdresser at Luzier’s Salon in the 1970’s. She stopped working to become a full- time mom for her only child. She still did hair for family members and close friends, but she still looked for something else that would become her passion and focus in life.

Romayne went back to college in 1987 at Edinboro University to earn a teaching degree. Not only did she earn a Bachelor’s degree but she went on to earn a Master’s degree in Secondary Education/ Spanish and English. She was a member of Phi Eta Sigma, Sigma Sigma Sigma, the Debate Team, and the Student Government Association. Teaching became her true passion in life. She taught Spanish at McDowell Intermediate School for 25 years.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 58 years, Howard Martin, one daughter Melissa Tingley (Morgan), and two grandchildren; Devon Tingley and Rebecca Tingley.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Dorothy Adams.

There will be a private service for family members handled by the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Rd.
