Obituary of John W. Cunningham

JOHN W. CUNNINGHAM John W. Cunningham, age 86, resident of Millcreek Township, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 29, 2025. John was born on December 11, 1938, in Oil City, PA, the son of the late John K. and Helen L. Cunningham. John married his beloved wife, Martha A. Zerres, on September 20, 1958. They were married for 60 years until her passing in 2019. After graduating from Oil City High School in 1957, John enlisted in the US Marine Corps. Following his enlistment, he worked for IBM, servicing machines throughout the region for 30 years, until his retirement in 1991. John is survived by his children: Joseph Cunningham (Barbara) of Niceville, FL, Valerie Tsekouras (George) of California, MD, and Jeffrey Cunningham (Melissa) of Largo, FL, daughter-in-law Sally Cunningham of Charlotte, NC, brother William Cunningham (Carolyn) of Fort Lauderdale, FL, sister Neena Van Camp of Athens, TN, nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his oldest son John M. Cunningham and a sister Sara Shafer. John took pleasure in woodworking, fixing things, tinkering with gadgets, and lending a helping hand to his neighbors. He and his family greatly appreciated Kathy Green, Kathy Slupski, and many other neighbors for their care and assistance during his later years. Whether it was sharing a meal, stopping by for an evening visit on the front porch, or having a cup of coffee and a cookie, he enjoyed every moment. Friends may call at the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Rd. on Thursday, February 6, 2025 from 11 am until the time of the Funeral Service at 1 pm. Interment Laurel Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Erie Zoo, 423 West 38th Street, Erie, PA 16508.
