Susan Jane Sullivan Starr
1959-2025
Susan Jane Sullivan Starr, age 65, of Erie, died surrounded by love, on Saturday, February 15, 2025 at UPMC-Hamot, following a brief illness.
Susan was born on May 20, 1959, in Warren, PA, the daughter of the late Paul William “P.W.” Sullivan and Rose Ann Schuda Sullivan Wolfe.
She was a life-long Erie resident and had a long career in hospitality; as a bartender at the VFW Post #470 where she was affectionally nicknamed “Red” for her red hair. She was a lifetime member of the Ladies Auxiliary at VFW Post #470. She was proud of her fundraising for the missions of the VFW and the Elks Club. Susan was a wonderful cook and loved to make sure everyone around her at family gatherings were well fed. The joke of the family was that she always cooked for a small army. She was known for being funny, witty, and compassionate. Susan was a loving mother, grandmother, and an amazing friend to all. She also very much enjoyed family gatherings, playing cards, and watching her favorite TV shows.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister Lynn Lombardi.
She is survived by two sons; Jeffrey Starr (Audrey) of Dayton, OH, Nicholas Maloney of Erie, one daughter Brenda Newlin (Brian) of Erie, four grandchildren; Owen and Emmett Starr and Austin and Angela Newlin, five brothers: Daniel Sullivan (Halle) of Erie, James Sullivan (Erin) of Warren, PA, Jesse Sullivan, Joseph Sullivan (Ann Marie) of Mt. Juliet, TN, and Mark Sullivan of Orlando, FL.
Friends may call at the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Rd. on Monday, February 24, 2025 from 3 pm until the time of a Prayer Service at 7 pm. Entombment to follow on Tuesday, February 25, 2025 at Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Ladies Auxiliary at VFW Post #470. 1808 West 26th Street, Erie, PA 16508.
