Betty Jane Petruso (AKA Betty Boop) Obituary

Betty Jane Petruso (AKA Betty Boop)

Betty passed away making her journey home on Friday, June 13, 2025 at St. Mary’s at Asbury Ridge at the age of 90 years old after a year long battle with Dementia. She was born in Carlisle, PA on September 20, 1934 to William and Madeline Cooper. She was raised in Meadville, PA and attended Meadville H.S. In the summer of 1955, she met the love of her life, Salvatore (Sam) Petruso, they had a summer romance and married on October 1, 1955. This October would have been 70 years of marriage. They moved to Erie in August of 1958 and still reside in the same home today. Betty was known for her over the top family gatherings, food of course which included pasta with meatballs and homemade fresh bread on Sundays. There was always enough for everyone to take home and if you went away hungry you didn’t eat enough. Christmas time was a favorite of hers, when the house was a bustle of activities from making cookies and candies enough for family and friends who stopped by, to lavish gifts that were wrapped to perfection. After raising three children, she began to work at Super Saver, Mother Care, and Hallmark Cards where she was chosen to travel to their headquarters in Kansas City. She closed out her employment years at Rozell Jewelers.

She was a very giving woman, giving to many Charities. She loved flowers from her favorite place, Frank’s Farm Market and Bakery. Betty was a life long member of Sacred Heart Church.

She is survived by the LOVE OF HER LIFE Salvatore (Sam) Petruso, whom she was married to for 69 years and three children, Monica Burgos (Narciso) of Erie, Mark Petruso (Sue) of Erie, Marie Kimpel (Ed) of Lewisburg, TN. Betty had seven grandchildren: Angela Langenkamp, Kristin Petruso, Carey Sexton, Anthony Burgos, Eddie Kimpel, Brian Kimpel, and Christopher Kimpel, ten great-grandchildren, and a brother Donald Cooper. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Harry (Bill) Cooper.

Services will be held at Sacred Heart Church, 816 West 26th St., Erie, PA 16508 on Wednesday, June 18, 2025 with viewing from 10 am until the time of the Funeral Mass at 11 am. Entombment will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Services were handled through the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Rd., Erie, PA 16506. In lieu of flowers one can make a donation to Sacred Heart food pantry or to the charity of one’s choice.

Mother, we will certainly miss you and your cooking. MUCH LOVE FROM ALL OF US!
