John Peter Leonardos

John was the son of Nitsa and Peter Leonardos of Kiato, Greece. His family moved and settled in America in 1953. After coming to America, John settled in Erie, PA. He is best known as a restauranteur and entrepreneur. John was owner of Players Night Club, The Waterfront Restaurant for many years and then he opened Under The Clock.

John Leonardos, 85, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 25, 2025 at home with his wife by his side.

He was born in Kiato, Greece in 1940. He enjoyed gardening, boating, golfing, and sharing his passion of cooking for all who loved him. John loved traveling, especially to his homeland, Greece. John always looked forward to his weekly “Roundtable” discussions with his friends at Panos Restaurant. He was an active member of St. George R.C. Parish and was a Cub Master for several years.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Nitsa and Peter Leonardos, and a son, Richard Leonardos.

John is survived by his wife of 29 years, Wendy Whiteman Leonardos of Erie, his daughter Lori Leonardos (John Irwin) of Atlanta, GA., his son, John Leonardos, of Ft. Meyers, Fl., his brother George Leonardos (Stephanie), his stepdaughter, Jennifer Smerker, stepson, Mark Stevens (Stephanie). He is also survived by four grandchildren: Alexandra Irwin, Ava Smerker, Simone Stevens, and Elliot Stevens, his Godson, Nicholas Leonardos, and several nieces and nephews, his former wife, Gerri Leonardos (Jack Battaglia); and his faithful best furry friend, Yogi.

Friends may call at the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Rd. on Tuesday, July 1, 2025 from 5 pm until the time of the Funeral Service at 7 pm. Private interment.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
