Paul “Scott” Canfield


Paul “Scott” Canfield, age 71, of Millcreek Twp., passed away unexpectedly from post-operative complications at the Cleveland Clinic on Wednesday, July 16, 2025. He was born in Erie on August 13, 1953, the son of the late Paul J. and Irene M. Nolan Canfield.

Scott was a 1971 graduate of McDowell H.S. and took several classes at Edinboro University.

Scott was co-owner and sales representative in the family business, Canfield Auto Radiator.

Scott was passionate about writing and storytelling and regularly contributed to the “Stepping Out” magazine of Warren, PA. He inspired and encouraged many young people to become writers along the way. Scott spent years enjoying the outdoors while jeeping. He and his best friend, Jim Gunter, developed, coordinated, and hosted the Jeep Jamboree in Bradford, PA for over 20 years. Scott loved working in his yard, tending to his fruit trees, and spending time in the mercantile.

There is no place Scott loved more than the family camp, “Camp on the Rocks”. Whether grilling, hunting, or by the fireside, he loved spending time there with his family and friends.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Maureen Altman and his niece, Colleen Rose Shaner.

He is survived by his wife, Maureen McShane Canfield, one son Chris Canfield (Christine), two daughters; Stacie Giles and Beth Smith (Mark), one stepson Aaron Rolph (Angela). Additionally survived by 7 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, his siblings: Nolan (Diane), Bonnie Carrick (Dave), and Danny (Janine), as well as many nieces, nephews, and his faithful companion, Buddy.

Friends may call at the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Rd. on Tuesday, July 22, 2025 from 4 pm until the time of a prayer service at 7 pm. Private interment Laurel Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Friends of the Erie County Library, 160 E. Front Street, Erie, PA 16507 or to the charity of one’s choice.
