Carol Ann Laughlin Maki Grieshaber Obituary

Carol Ann Laughlin Maki Grieshaber

Carol Ann Maki Grieshaber, age 89, passed away on Monday, November 3, 2025 in Erie after a long illness.

She was born in Millcreek in 1936 and raised with four sisters and two brothers.

Carol was an exacting woman in all things whose sewing and quilting was as precise as it was perfectly suited to her. Like her favorite recipes, she remained ever herself through decades, enthusiastically tending an immaculate garden where even the trees understood how they should grow.

She was a member of the first graduating class at McDowell H.S. In 1955, she married the love of her life, August “Babe” Maki. He and his brothers built them a house and she took great pride in making that home immaculate with her favorite pizzelles always at the ready for guests. She was a member of Our Lade of Peace R.C. Church since the 1960’s.

She finished raising her only child, Alan, on her own when she was widowed in 1971. She took great pride in the achievements of her son and grandchildren, embarrassing them with her desire to praise them in public. She worked for decades at American Sterilizer (AMSCO) in payroll.

She and Charles M. Grieshaber, both widowed, met at Buffalo Molded Plastics and later married. He preceded her in death in 1996 after 15 happy years together.

Her mind faded long before her body did and her family is relieved she can be at peace now. Carol is survived by her son Alan Maki (Lorraine), sisters; Kay Haibach and Mary Renwick, two grandchildren; Justine Makieli, Alex Maki, two great-grandchildren; Elara and Laila Makieli, along with many nieces and nephews, including Kathy Laughlin Santisteban, Patrick Laughlin, and Larry Mancuso. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence Laughlin and Florence Wehen Laughlin, and siblings including Alice Bailey, Lois Irwin, Larry Laughlin, and James Laughlin.

Friends may call at the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Rd. on Tuesday, November 11, 2025 from 10 am until the Memorial Service at 12 Noon followed by the Inurnment at Calvary Cemetery.
