James McLaughlin Obituary

James R. McLaughlin


James R. McLaughlin, 87, formerly of East 33rd St., died Monday evening, August 11, 2008 at Sarah A. Reed Retirement Center. He was born in Erie on May 21, 1921, the son of the late Daniel and Bridget McLaughlin.


He graduated from Academy High School and attended Gannon College. He served in the Army during WWII in the European, African, and Middle East Campaigns and earned four bronze stars.


He was employed by the City of Erie as Chief Housing Inspector until 1973, and then employed as Project Manager for the Erie Housing Authority until his retirement in 1988. He enjoyed playing golf and traveling to visit his two daughters.


He was preceded in death by his wife, Jacqueline McLaughlin, and two sisters, Margaret McLaughlin and Catherine Habersack, and two brothers, Daniel McLaughlin and John McLaughlin. He is survived by two daughters, Doreen J. McLaughlin of Monument, Colorado and Debra E. McCaleb and her husband, Brian, of Erie, three grandchildren: Paul, Jesse, and Brianna McCaleb all of Erie, two brothers, Bernard McLaughlin and Edward McLaughlin and his wife, Marge, of Erie, one sister, Marion Kehr of Marrieta, Georgia, dear friend, Barbara Bernard, and several nieces and nephews.


Memorials may be made to the Sarah A. Reed Retirement Center, 2227 West 22nd St., Erie, PA, 16502. Special thanks are extended to all the caretakers of Sarah Reed for their devoted care to our father during his time of residency there. Private arrangements are being handled by the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Rd.
