Philip W. Pelton


Philip "Phil" W. Pelton, age 95, of Erie, died Tuesday, June 28, 2011 at the Sarah A. Reed Retirement Center. He was born on July 30, 1915 in Georgetown, DE, the son of the late, Ward C. and Ruth Wood Pelton.


He was a graduate of the University of TN and acquired both his Bachelor's and Master's Degrees. He was employed at GE as an engineer until his retirement in 1982 after 42 years of service. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He was always fascinated with engineering. Phil established a half million dollar endowed scholastic scholarship for special education teachers at Edinboro University in memory of his daughter, Linda.


Phil donated much time and resources to L'Arche during his life-time.


He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorthea Bellew Pelton in 1982. He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Linda Ann Pelton, and two brothers, Stewart and John Pelton. He is survived by one son, Ronald S. Pelton (Imogene) of Cambridge Springs, two grandchildren, Scott and Wayne Pelton, five great grandchildren: Tyler, Brody, and Ryder Pelton, Ashley and Kara Slayton, and several nieces and nephews.


Friends may call at the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Rd. on Friday from 6 p.m. until time of service there at 7:15 p.m. Private interment. Memorial contributions may be made to L'Arche Erie, Inc., 3745 West 12th Street, Erie, PA 16505 or to First United Methodist Church of Erie, 707 Sassafras St., Erie, PA 16501.
