Cajetan Urraro


Cajetan "Cajie" (KG) Urraro, age 88, of the PA Soldier's and Sailor's Home, formerly of Sterrettania Rd. in Millcreek Twp., died Saturday, June 18, 2011 at St. Vincent Medical Center after a brief illness. He was born in Erie on January 23, 1923, the son of the late, Gaetano and Antoinette Urraro.


He served in the US Army during WWII in San Francisco and Hawaii. He was a tool and die maker working at Farnstrom Tool & Die and retired from Owens Brockway in 1991. He drove the Zamboni at the Glenwood Ice Rink. Cajie loved to have a huge garden in the back of the house. He sold tomatoes every year. He was an extremely hard worker. He also built his own home. He loved to read and while at the Soldier's and Sailor's Home he read 506 books. He boxed in the Golden Gloves Boxing Tournament and was knocked out in the first round. He played football in the Senior Pro League. He was a PIAA football ref. from 1951-1971, and enjoyed gardening, baseball games, and truly loved his wife and family.


He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Vera Mikitos Urraro in 2008, three sisters, and two brothers.


He is survived by his children: Marcia Terry (David) of Houston, TX, Jeffrey Urraro (Laurie) of Erie, Elise Sesler (Robert) of Erie, Dean Urraro (Lisa) of Atlanta, GA, Jill Hawk (Tom) of NC, three sisters: Antoinette Bliley, Dolores Serna, Donna Simas, one brother, Robert Urraro, seven grandchildren, nieces and nephews.


Friends may call at the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Rd. on Thursday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. and are invited there on Friday for the funeral service at 10:00 a.m. conducted by the Rev. Jack Risner. Interment Laurel Hill Cemetery.
