Obituary of Rosemarie Hayes

After a long and courageous battle with many health issues, Rosemarie "Babe" Hayes, with her loving husband by her side, gently passed on February 6, 2015 at Saint Vincent Hospital. Babe was born in Scranton on October 26, 1937 to Stephanie and Anthony Skrutsky. She began working at age 17, waitressing at 11th Street Diner and Mazza's Restaurant. After being a stay-at-home mother until her children were all in school, she joined the Erie School District/Metz Food Service as a lunch lady, serving lunches at Irving, Glenwood, Columbus, and Central. She was also employed by Blessed Sacrament and MacDonald Illig Jones and Britton. Babe was a long-time parishioner of Sacred Heart Church. She was a very devoted mother, and was always worrying about her children and grandchildren - they were her life. She was well-known for her cooking and baking and could always be found in the kitchen, whipping up something new. She was constantly on the go, and wouldn't let anything stop her! Her wry sense of humor is known by all that have met her. She somehow survived for years on Twix and coffee, and little else. Even in her final days, she was on the search for that lucky number! Survived by doting husband, Samuel, who she married on July 2, 1955, children: Robert Hayes, Stephen (Janice) Hayes, Scott (Sheila) Hayes, and Susan (Mark) Banka. Also survived by grandchildren: Justin Hayes, Scott Hayes, Anthony Hayes, Eric Hayes, Samantha Hayes, Brian Reichert, Megan Hayes, Brittany Hayes, Andrew Hayes, Samantha Banka, and Jonathan Banka, four great-grandchildren, brother, Anthony Skrutsky, sister Lorraine Oster, and special "adopted" daughter Jean Ager. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Skrutsky, who she missed very much and her beloved, Misty. Visitation will be held Thursday, February 12th from 4:00 p.m. until the service at 7:30 p.m. at the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Rd. Burial will be private.
