Obituary of Margaret Walker

On Sunday morning, June 14th, the One who died for her came to give her life. Our mother, Margaret Sakulich Walker was born in Dunmore, PA on October 17, 1928 to the late Nicholas and Anna Huzinec Sakulich. At an early age her family moved to McKean, PA; living and working on the family farm. She attended McKean Joint High School; graduating in 1946 as Salutatorian of her class. She went to the dances at the Townhall and attended socials where the boys would bid on the boxes the girls made and then would join the boy who won the bid enjoying the dessert. She attended Erie Business School; graduating in 1948 and was subsequently employed by Erie Insurance Exchange, where she and her sister (Katherine) were the first two family members hired together. On June 2, 1951 she married George G. Walker, bought a piece of property in McKean, built a house and started a family. They followed in her in her in-laws footsteps having eight children. George and Margaret were members of St. Francis Xavier Parish in McKean, where she was a member of the Rosary Society and the Sunshine Circle. She was the local Avon lady for several years. She enjoyed reading, cooking, playing board games and cards, baking, but mostly she enjoyed her children, grandchildren (10) and great-grandchildren (3) and her faithful companion, her dog Chloe. She is survived by her husband George, daughters: Susan Jepson (Daniel) of Cranesville, Sharon Wirick (Ric) of Keaau, HI, Maureen Walker of Chicago, IL, and sons; George P. Walker (Peggy) of Clymer, NY, Michael Walker (Julie) of McKean, Christopher Walker (Lisa) of Cambridge Springs and Daniel Walker (Andrea) of San Angelo, TX. She is also survived by her sisters Katherine Ott (Edward) and Anne Conroe (Robert) and her sister-in-law Connie Walker (Fred) as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Ann Walker and a grandson Gregory Stephen Jepson. A celebration Mass and Memorial Service will be held on June 26, 2015 at St. Francis Xavier Church in McKean at 10:00 a.m., followed by a luncheon provided by the Sunshine Circle. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Anna Shelter, 1555 East 10th Street, Erie, PA 16503.
