Obituary of Lois R. Hoffman

Lois R. Hoffman age 93, of Erie, PA., died Tuesday July 14, 2015 at Pleasant Ridge Manor West. She was born in Corry, PA. on November 18, 1921 the daughter of the late Adrian and Dora Meerdink Reesink. She graduated from Corry High School class of 1939 and from Slippery Rock State Teachers College, class of 1943 with a B.S. degree in Physical Education. She taught in Ross Twp. Pgh. PA. and at Mercyhurst College, Erie, PA. She was a member of Lakewood United Methodist Church, served as Liturgist and shared many years with the Lydia Ruth Circle and the UMW. She was active in the League of Women Voters, served several years at her voting precinct, and worked with the committee for the “VOTE YES’ effort to change the form of County Gov’t. She was on the first Board for the Edmond L. Thomas Detention Center. Lois along with her husband, Jim were members of the Flagship Niagara League. He was a guide and she worked in the Gift Shop. She loved golfing, bowling, sailing, RV traveling, cats, and time spent with many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 59 ½ years James C. Hoffman. She is survived by a sister DeLeo Kightlinger known as “Kite” of Girard, PA and many dear friends especially the Dr. James DeMatteis Family. A celebration/memorial service will be held on Tuesday July 21, 2015 at 1:00 P.M. in the Pleasant Ridge Manor-West Chapel, 8300 West Ridge Rd., Girard, PA. Inurnment will be private in Pittsburgh, PA. Arrangements are being handled by the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania RD.
