Dmitriy Pavlovich Kanarskiy
Dmitriy Pavlovich Kanarskiy, age 83, of Erie, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 25, 2015 at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born on December 5, 1931 in Priobrajensk, Ukraine, the son of the late Pavel and Kseniya Kanarskiy.
He lost his parents and older siblings at an early age, leaving him as head of his household. By his early teens, he became the provider for his younger sister and stepmother. His military service brought him to the country of Moldova, where he started his own family and came to Christ. He worked in transportation all his life, as a chauffeur and operator of various types of vehicles. Dmitriy faced persecution for this faith in the former USSR and brought his family to the United States on June 2, 1992, in search of freedom and the opportunity offered in this country. He was a member of the First Ukrainian Pentecostal Church of Erie. He loved his family and the Word of God. In his later years, he fought an enormous battle with Parkinson’s disease.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepmother, Matrona, brother Vladimir, sister Mariya, first wife Anastasiya, infant daughter Lyubov, son Peter, son-in-law Slavic, daughter-in-law Nina, grandson Dmitriy and brother-in-law Aleksander. He is survived by his wife, Stefania and youngest daughter Yuliya, who cared for him at home; his eldest daughters Vera (Vladimir Atamansky) and Nadia, Simon (Aurelia), Vladimir (Natasha), Sergey, Lyuba (Don), Viktor (Yelena), Olga, Anna (Eric), Irina (Jay); 26 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, sister Claudia, nieces, nephews, in-laws and countless friends who will miss him dearly.
