Obituary of Richard O. Hemme

Richard O. Hemme, age 96, of Erie, passed away at his home on Monday, August 31, 2015, with his family by his side. He was born in Sterrettania, PA, on October 16, 1918, the son of the late Arthur H. and Gertrude Brooks Hemme. Dick was a U.S. Army Veteran serving his country in World War II. He was employed with the former Burke Electric and The Lord Corporation as a machinist. He was a member of the Lord Quarter Century Club. He was an avid golfer. He enjoyed playing the accordion and violin and blessed his family and friends with his gift of music. He wrote poetry and dabbled in art. He was also ingenious at inventing things. Richard was preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years, Elsie, a beloved son, Richard A. Hemme, and a brother Donald Hemme. He will be sadly missed by his daughter Shirley Hipps, six grandchildren: Kathleen Anderson of MD, Christine Komonchak (Rich) of MD, A. John Lastowski of Albion, Michael Lastowski of Philadelphia, R.J. Hemme of Ohio, Marygrace Hemme (Kris Steward) of TN, four great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Private arrangements were held by the family under the direction of the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Rd. A private celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
