Obituary of Lewis R. Smith

Lewis “Lew” R. Smith, age 92, of Millcreek Twp., passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 3, 2015 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was born on February 1, 1923 in Erie the son of the late Harold D. and Katherine Sherriff Smith. Lew served in the Army Air Corp during WWII in the 401st Bombardment Group H. He was employed at and retire from Erie GE after 40 years. He was a member of the Siebenbuerger Club, VFW Post 470, the American Legion Post 773 and the Moose Club. He enjoyed adult roller skating and riding his motorcycle. He spent many winters in his home in FL. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Kathleen Jackson Smith, one sister Jane Smith Ulbrich, and one niece Kathy Ulbrich. He is survived by his nieces: Sally U. Wolfe of Millcreek, Susan Burg of Erie, Cheryl Hawks of Jewel City, CT, Jill Jacob (Michael) of Truckee, CA, his nephews: Timothy Ulbrich (Mary) of Millcreek, Thomas Ulbrich (Laura) of Safety Harbor, FL, a brother-in-law William Hawks Griswold of CT and many great and great great nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Rd. on Monday from 1:00 p.m. until time of military and funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Private interment Laurel Hill Cemetery. The family requests no flowers, but memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice, 719 Indiana Drive, Erie, PA 16505 or to the family in care of the funeral home.
