Obituary of Phyllis S. Scarpitti

Phyllis S. Scarpitti, 91, of Erie, passed away on Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at UPMC – Hamot. She was surrounded by her loving family who will hold her memory in their hearts forever more. She was born in Buffalo, NY on May 24, 1924, the daughter of the late Benjamin H. Scott and Lyda Brown Scott. Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, Atty. Richard V. Scarpitti. Surviving are her son, Richard V. Scarpitti, Jr. and his wife Jeannie of Vancouver, Canada, her daughter Karen S. Ford and her husband Dennis A. Ford of Fairview, PA, and her brother Captain Robert L. Scott of State College, PA. She is also survived by Kathy W. Scarpitti and many nieces and nephews. A wife and mother, she adored her husband and two children and was devoted to their wellbeing and happiness. She gave them all the love and caring that is humanly possible. For many years, she volunteered for the local Red Cross and United way. Known for her radiance, Phyllis always lit up every room she entered. Her warmth made all those around her feel joyful and welcome. She enjoyed her many friends, bridge, tennis, and was a steadfast advocate for children and animals. There will be a Service to celebrate her life at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at St. Mary’s West at Asbury Ridge, 4855 West Ridge Rd. All arrangements were handled by the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Rd. In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions may be made in her honor to the Human Society of Northwestern PA, 2407 Zimmerly Rd., Erie, PA 16506 or to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 1645 West 8th Street, Erie, PA 16505.
