Obituary of John E. Milewski

John E. Milewski of Evans, GA, went to be with his Lord on Thursday, April 21, 2016 after a brave fight with brain cancer. He was born on July 29, 1961 in Presque Isle, ME, the son of Joseph J. and Theresa M. Wronek Milewski of Erie. John graduated from St. John Kanty Prep in 1979, St. Vincent School of Nursing in 1984, and received a BSN Degree from Edinboro University. John worked as a certified OR nurse at St. Vincent Hospital, Hamot, the Erie VA Hospital, and Dwight David Eisenhower Medical Center at Fort Gordon, GA. He served 22 years in the Army Reserve, retiring with the rank of Major and was called to active duty during Operation Enduring Freedom at Fort Carson, CO and Fort Gordon, GA. Besides his parents, John is survived by his two children; John Garand and Robynn Elizabeth of Erie, his brother James Milewski (Linda) of Millcreek, his sister Kathleen Kurutz (Michael) of Erie, a nephew Jeremy and a niece Sarah, and many good friends. John was a life-long member of the NRA and the Siebenbuerger Society and a member of AORN. John loved animals, was an avid collector of historical and military articles, he loved outdoor activities including: running, shooting, biking, and boating. John took pride in his Polish Catholic heritage, especially the Zabawa. John will be missed by his family and friends. Friends may call at the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Rd. on Monday, April 25, 2016 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. and are invited there on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at 10:15 a.m. for prayers followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Luke R.C. Church, 421 East 38th Street, Erie, PA 16504 at 11:00 a.m. Interment with full military honors will be held at Trinity Cemetery. A Memorial Service will be held in Georgia at a time to be announced. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Erie City Mission, 1017 French Street, Erie, PA 16512 or to the Anna Shelter, 1555 East 10th Street, Erie, PA 16511.
