Obituary of Dorothy F. Crofton

Dorothy M. Fletcher Crofton, age 89, passed away at St. Vincent Hospital in Erie, PA on Wednesday, August 10, 2016, following a brief illness. She was born on October 12, 1926 in Scranton, PA, the daughter of the late, George and Mary Fletcher. She was a graduate of Saint Patrick’s H.S. After graduation, she began working as a telephone operator, a career which spanned 40 years in Scranton and Saranac Lake, NY. Dorothy served as a past president of the telephone pioneers.
On October 13, 1951, Dorothy Married Francis Crofton at Holy Rosary Church. They settled in Scranton and after five years they relocated to Saranac Lake NY. Dorothy and he lived there for 11 years and eventually returned to Scranton in 1977. In 2013, Francis and Dorothy moved to Erie, PA to reside with their daughter, Marian, and son-in-law, Mario.
Dorothy was a member of Holy Rosary Church, where she enjoyed playing bingo and quilting. Additionally, she liked to draw, play cards, bake, and spend time with her grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Marian D’Aurora and son-in-law Dr. Mario D’Aurora of Erie, PA, her brother, William Fletcher (Irene) of Scranton, her brother-in-law, Paul Crofton of Tampa, FL, her grandchildren: Francis D’Aurora (Laura) of Ellicott City, MD, Patrick D’Aurora (Carly) of Reston, VA, Elizabeth D’Aurora (Dave) of Erie, her great-grandchildren; Vanessa and Brent D’Aurora of Ellicott, MD, and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Francis, in January 2016, with whom she enjoyed 64 years of marriage, and her sister Marie Dearing.
Friends are invited to call, Friday, August 12 from 4 until 7 p.m. at the Edward Knight O’Donnell Funeral Home, 323 William Street, Scranton. The funeral will be held Saturday, August 13 at 9:30 a.m. with Mass at Mary, Mother of God Parish at Holy Rosary Church, 316 William Street, Scranton. Those attending the funeral are asked to proceed directly to the church. Burial will be at Cathedral Cemetery. Erie arrangements were handled by the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Rd. Erie, PA 16506.
Memorial contributions may be made to Mary, Mother of God Parish at Holy Rosary Church, 316 William St., Scranton, PA 18508.
