Obituary of Michael J. Palermo

Michael “Mike” J. Palermo Coach and Mentor to Student Athletes Michael “Mike” J. Palermo, age 45, of Millcreek Twp., passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, August 18, 2016 at St. Vincent Hospital. He was born on September 10, 1970 in Erie, the son of Sandra J. Eastman Pavlinko (John) of Erie and the late Michael L. Palermo. Mike was a 1988 graduate of General McLane H.S. and Gannon University in 1995. He went onto play in the NFL for New Orleans Saints for two years. He currently owned and operated the Red Fox Inn for the past seventeen years. He also was a coach and mentor to many student athletes, both on and off the court and field. A few of the organizations were Walnut Creek MS, McDowell HS, and Erie Saints Girls basketball. He was a member and former President of the Millcreek Twp. School Board for eight years. In 2016, Mike was inducted into the Gannon University Hall of Fame for football. Mike’s true love was spending quality time with his wife and two children. Mike is survived by his beloved wife of twenty years Amy L. Chatterton Palermo, his mother Sandra and step-father, John, of Erie, his daughter Sydney Rose Palermo and his son Cameron J. Palermo both at home. Also surviving is one sister Marci “Sis” J. Palermo of Erie, his mother and father-in-law James and Mary Margaret Chatterton of Rochester, NY, his sisters-in-law Christine Glavin and Michele DePetres (Mark), nieces: Michaela Palermo, Shauna Glavin, Gabrielle DePetres, nephews: Donovan Glavin, Jordan DePetres, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends. Friends may call at the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Rd. on Monday, August 22, 2016 from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. and are invited to a Funeral Mass on Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Peace R.C. Church, 2401 West 38th Street, Erie, PA 16506. Interment Laurel Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Millcreek Education Foundation/Mike Palermo Scholarship Fund, Millcreek Twp. Education Center, 3740 West 26th Street, Erie, PA 16506 or to Villa Maria Academy, 2403 West 8th Street, Erie, PA 16505.
