Obituary of Joseph T. Mitchell

Joseph “Joe” T. Mitchell, age 73, of McKean Twp., passed away peacefully at his residence surrounded by his loving family after a brief illness. He was born in Erie, PA on April 26, 1943, the son of the late Joseph and Mary Mikolaiczak Mikotowicz. He was employed at General Electric, Finish Engineering, Reed Mfg. (where he held several patents), and retired from American Meter Co. He was a member of the SONS of Lake Erie and attended St. Patrick’s R.C. Church. Joe enjoyed fishing, gardening, and attending auctions. He is survived by his high school sweetheart with whom he recently celebrated 50 years of marriage, Mary Wagner Mitchell, his children; Caroline Mitchell Abramovich (Drew) of Cuyahoga Falls, OH, Gregory Mitchell (Mary Orton) of San Jose, CA, two sisters; Rose Marie Markiewicz (Joseph) of Orangeburg, SC, Mary Elizabeth Olson (Harvey) of Erie, two brothers; James Mikotowicz of Erie, Thomas Mikotowicz (Karen) of Bangor, Maine, his grandchildren: Michael, William, and Lauren Abramovich of Cuyahoga, OH, whom he dearly loved and were a source of great pride, and a dear friend and aunt Colleen Lamary. Friends may attend a Memorial Service at Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum’s Chapel on Saturday, October 8, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. conducted by Msgr. Henry Kriegel. Inurnment to follow. The family would like to offer a special “thank you” to Carren, his Great Lakes Hospice nurse and Kayla, his aide for their attentive care.
