George O. Dickey Sr. “K3VLP”, age 86 of Wattsburg, passed away on Thursday October 6, 2016 at LECOM-Presque Isle Rehabilitation. He was born in Erie on July 25, 1930, a son of the late Eldie and Margaret Wittenberg Dickey Sr. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Cherie Dickey in 2014; one sister, Joyce Gehrlein and two brothers, Harvey and Jack Dickey.
George was part of the last class to graduate from Millcreek High School in 1949, before it was renamed McDowell High School. He worked as a plumber for Logan Builders and Larry Longo Plumbing. George later retired from Zurn Industries where he worked in the General Air Division as a service technician. He was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church of Erie and was very involved in amateur radio for over 50 years with his handle being, K3VLP. George loved traveling all over the world and enjoyed watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune.
He is survived by his children, George (Linda) Dickey Jr. of Wattsburg, Margaret “Peg” Dickey Waltz of Pitcairn, PA, Leota (Scott) Dickey Haugan of Niceville, Florida and Barbara Dickey Hartman of State College, PA, ten grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, one sister, Florrie Elmgren of Georgia and one brother, Eldie (Norma) Dickey Jr. of Tennessee.
Funeral services were private and held at the convenience of the family. Inurnment in Laurel Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Northwestern PA, 2407 Zimmerly Rd. Erie, PA 16506. Arrangements were under the care of the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home & Crematory Inc. 4216 Sterrettania Rd.
