Obituary of Aletha T. Hood

Aletha Terrell Hood, age 92, of Millcreek Twp., formerly of Cambridge Springs and Waterford, passed away Saturday, February 18, 2017 at Fairview Manor. She was born on October 10, 1924, in Corry, the daughter of the late Edson and Dorothy Gehr Terrell. She was a Girl Scout leader for many years, a member of the Fort LeBoeuf Historical Society, Fort LeBoeuf Chapters DAC and DAR, and was the first Waterford Boro Council Woman. Aletha enjoyed reading non-fiction, crossword puzzles, gardening, growing orchids, traveling, old movies, and hockey (especially cheering on her grandson, Brad).
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband John “Jack” Hood, Jr. whom she met in Cambridge Springs and was wed on September 25, 1948. She was also preceded in death by her in-laws Mildred and Dr. Harold Hood, and her brothers: Merritt, Robert “Bobb”, and Richard “Dick” Terrell.
She is survived by her children; Rhonda Maxa (Dr. Robert) of Millcreek, Lorraine Hack (Daniel) of Cincinnati, OH, grandchildren: Aaron Maxa-Weaver (Tom) of Falls Church, VA, Allison Sellers (Bryson) of Okatie, SC, Bradley Maxa (Shelley) of Pittsburgh, PA, great-granddaughters; Dylan and Olivia Sellers, great-grandson Graham Maxa, brothers; Howard Terrell (Howe, IN) and Lawrence Terrell (Sue) (Buda, TX), one sister Mary Elizabeth Royer (Meadville, PA) and many beloved nieces, nephews, and their families.
The family wishes to extend their thanks and appreciation to Dr. Edward Janus, VNA Hospice, the 3rd floor nursing staff at Millcreek Community Hospital and the nurses, aids, therapists, friends, staff, and administration at Fairview Manor for their loving care of Aletha. Private services were handled by the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 43216 Sterrettania Rd.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Ft. LeBoeuf Historical Society, PO Box 622, Waterford, PA 16441.
