Obituary of Shirley F. Robie

Headline: Loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Shirley F. Wagner Robie, age 91 of Erie, passed away unexpectedly with her family by her side on Thursday February 23, 2017 at UPMC - Hamot Hospital. She was born in Erie on August 12, 1925 a daughter of the late Charles “Tam” and Gertrude Reinwald Wagner A lifelong resident of Erie Shirley graduated from East High School in 1944. She worked at American Meter and was later a cashier at the Warner Theater, where she would meet her future husband and the love of her life Joseph J. Robie. In their early years, together they owned and operated Mattis & Robie Insurance. When they decided to start a family Shirley’s focus shifted to caring for their three children. As her children grew she became very involved with her husband’s many civic and political endeavors. She also enjoyed a very successful career in estate sales for over 30 years. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Joseph J. Robie in 2006 and her loyal companion James Cole in 2015. Shirley was a very well-known, vivacious and caring person who loved people and was loved by many. She was a member of and enjoyed her time at the Erie Maennerchor Club She leaves to cherish her memory, three children, Tom Robie, Jan (Jay) Gerringer and Jerry (Mary Lou) Robie all of Erie; six grandchildren, T.J. (Cami) Robie, Tony (Jenn) Robie, Carrie (Fran) Robie Facchine, Bryan (Cindy) Robie, Andrea (Doug) Robie Grieshaber and Lori Gerringer, and ten great-grandchildren. She is further survived by her sister-in-law Patricia Robie Chaffee, her family, the Cole family and many dear friends. Anyone who ever met Shirley was touched by her beauty, poise, grace, charm and her loving ways. Friends may call at the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home & Crematory Inc. 4216 Sterrettania Rd. on Wednesday from 1 to 5 PM and 7 to 9 PM, and are invited to a prayer service there on Thursday morning at 9:15 AM, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM at Blessed Sacrament Roman Catholic Church. Entombment will follow in the Mausoleum at Calvary Cemetery.
