Obituary of Edward R. Brown, Sr.

Edward “Red” Brown, Sr. Edward “Red” R. Brown, Sr., age 86, left this world on Sunday, February 26, 2017 to meet with his two angels, Carol Marie and Luanne, in Heaven. Red was a contractor and excellent finishing carpenter. He owned Brown’s Cabinet Shop for many years; built many houses in the Erie area and helped build the dome for the Erie Planetarium. Besides building things and working with his hands, he enjoyed fishing, playing cards, doing puzzles, and watching NASCAR. He was a former Webelo’s Scout leader and was past President of the Erie Lion’s Club. He was a member of the Erie Auxiliary Police. He also worked maintenance at Blessed Sacrament Parish until he retired in 1996. He was a Blessed Sacrament usher prior to becoming a member at Saint Stephens of Hungary Parish, where he did several projects. One of his most proud gifts to the church was the altar he constructed at Saint Stephens for Our Lady of Guadalupe. His talents and expertise in the art of carpentry will be greatly missed. Red was preceded in death by his parents Theodore and Myrtle Brown, two daughters; Carol Marie and Luanne, one son-in-law Bruce Sawtelle, five brothers, and four sisters. Red is survived by his one true love and wife of 66 years, Shirley Ann Cauley Brown. He is also survived by four daughters: Pauline Enssle (Ernie), Cindy Sawtelle, Sharon Johnson (Gary), Jeanette O’Leary (Kevin) and three sons; Ed (Robin), Dan (Sue), and Randy, one sister Marie Brown, close family friend Judy Johnson (aka: Grumpy’s Uber Driver), and faithful puppy, Max. He was proud of all his children and enjoyed spending time with them. He is further survived by 20 grandchildren and 26 ½ great-grandchildren many nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Rd. on Thursday, March 2, 2017 from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m. and are invited there on Friday, March 3, 2017 at 9:15 a.m. for prayers followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Stephen of Hungary Parish, 1237 West 21st Street, Erie, PA 16502. Interment Gate of Heaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Erie Shriners Hospital for Children, 1645 West 8th Street, Erie, PA 16505, the Barber National Institute, 100 Barber Place, 136 East Ave., Erie, PA 16507, or Saint Stephen of Hungary Parish.
