James “Jim Steele Swan, Jr.
James “Jim” S. Swan, Jr., age 92, of Erie, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at the Erie Veterans Medical Center. He was born in Erie on October 27, 1924, the son of the late James S. and Helen Morrison Swan, Sr. and step-mother Thora Nelson. He was drafted into the Army in March 1943 and was stationed in the Aleutian Islands, Alaska. He was employed at Warren Radio for 15 years and then was employed at and retired from Tanner Manufacturing as an electrician after 25 years. He was an usher at Trinity Lutheran Church for 50 years and was a life member of the Siebenbuerger and East Erie Turners Clubs. He also belonged to the Machinist Union-IAM.
Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing, building and maintaining his hunting camp, and square dancing with the Lads and Lassies.
He was preceded in death by one step-sister Doris Jean Ericson. He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years Doris H. Sachrison Swan whom he married on May 1, 1948, two children Carol Zamperini (Mark) of Erie, James Steele Swan, III, PhD (Linda) of Lewisburg, PA, his grandchildren: Karen Zamperini (Curtis Heckelman), Dr. Katherine Zamperini, MD, David Zamperini, Capt. Matthew Zamperini (Lauren), Autumn Swan, Elliott Swan, three great-grandchildren; Ian, Eva, and Lila Heckelman.
Friends may call at the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Rd. on Saturday, May 13, 2017 from 11:00 a.m. until time of Funeral Service there at 1:00 p.m. Interment Laurel Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, 14 East 38th Street, Erie, PA 16504 or to the charity of one’s choice.
