Obituary of Matthew J. Schmitt

Matthew J. “Matt” Schmitt, 35, of Erie, formerly of Pittsburgh, PA, passed away suddenly on Saturday May 13, 2017 at his home.  Matt was the beloved husband of Melissa Wilson Schmitt and proud father of Ashton Matthew and Tanner Thomas Schmitt.  He was born on December 16, 1981, a son of Richard T. and Valerie R. (Nicotra) Schmitt of Canadotha Lake.  He also left behind his older brother and best friend Richard Schmitt Jr., and his wife Sabrina also of Canadotha Lake.  He was the grandson of John and Mary Ann Nicotra of Pittsburgh, PA, and was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Joseph and Dorothy Schmitt.  Also surviving are many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. 

Matt was a star salesman at Interstate Mitsubishi and several months he led in sales.  He was known for his infectious smile and sense of humor.  Matt was an avid sports fan and fantasy football specialist.  He made friends all over the world because of his love of video games.  He also enjoyed spending time with his children and his cat Will. 

Friends may call at the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory Inc. 4216 Sterrettania Rd. Erie, PA 16506 on Thursday May 18, 2017 from 1:00 PM until the time of the funeral service at 7:00 PM.  A celebration of Matthew’s life will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, an educational fund has been established for Ashton and Tanner at, Erie Federal Credit Union 5500 Zuck Rd. Erie, PA 16506.
