Allison Rebecca Maxa Sellers
Allison Maxa Sellers, age 35, of Millcreek Twp., and Okatie, SC, passed away on Friday, May 26, 2017 at UPMC – Hamot.
She was born on March 2, 1982 in Erie, the daughter of Dr. Robert and Rhonda Hood Maxa.
Allison attended Millcreek schools, graduating from McDowell H.S. in 2000. After spending one year at Mercyhurst College for music, she attended and graduated from Toni and Guy Hairdressing Academy as a cosmetologist. Allison worked at J.C. Penney Hair Salon for 4 years before moving to Nashville and working for HCA (Hospital Corporation of America) she was also employed with the law firm of Tupper, Grimsley, and Dean as a legal assistant/notary public (Beaufort, SC), purchasing/staffing clerk at Autumn Care Nursing Home. In November 2008, Allison was reunited with her boyfriend Bryson, who she was introduced to in June 1997 in Myrtle Beach, SC. True love never dies, and they were married on September 10, 2011 in Beaufort, SC. Bryson is a Gunnery Sergeant in the Marine Corps, so they were transferred a couple of times until settling back in Beaufort, SC.
Allison was diagnosed with Type I diabetes at age 12 and gradually developed kidney problems, until she had to begin dialysis in October 2015. In January 2017, Allison relocated to Erie, hoping to receive a kidney transplant. Those hopes were extinguished with her death.
Besides her parents, Allison is survived by her husband Bryson S. Sellers, daughters Dylan and Olivia and a stepson Jameson Sellers. She has two brothers Aaron (Tom) Maxa-Weaver of Falls Church, VA, and Bradley (Shelley) Maxa and nephew Graham Maxa of Pittsburgh, PA, her aunts; Lorraine (Daniel) Hack of Cincinnati, OH, Nancy Frye of Spartanburg, SC, and Sharon Hargett of Duncan, SC, cousins Michelle Schmidt, Joshua Pace, and April Pace.
She is further survived by her in-laws Robert and Judi Vosbrinck and Richard Sellers and brother-in-law Brent Sellers.
Allison was preceded in death by her grandparents Robert and Elfrida Maxa and John and Aletha Hood, and uncles Michael “Pete” Pace, Robert “Bobby” Schmidt and Jerry Croft.
Allison loved “doing her hair”, singing, Mexican food, learning how to cook, and being with family and friends. The family wishes to extend their thanks and appreciation to Dr. Adrienne Gerhart, Lisa and the other physicians, nurses, and staff at Lake Erie Dialysis for their loving care of Allison.
Friends and family may call at the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Rd. on Thursday, June 1, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Private interment. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to JDRF International at www.jdrf.org.
