James P. Cunningham
James P. Cunningham, age 77, of Erie, died Thursday, May 17, 2007. He was born on June 10, 1929, a son of the late J. Harold and Dorothy Reid Cunningham.
He was devoted to the Catholic faith. He was a 1948 graduate of Cathedral Preparatory School. Jim was a Korean Conflict Veteran, having seen active duty in the beginning of the conflict. He served in the 3rd Engineering Combat Battalion and 24th Infantry Division. For 20 years until the closure of the business, he delivered milk and dairy products to hundreds of Erie family homes and businesses while employed with Sterling Milk. He then became a driver for E.M.T.A. for 19 years until his retirement in 1994. Jim was a long-standing member of the Siebenbuerger Club, a former member of Saint Peter's Cathedral, and a current member of Saint Julia Catholic Church.
His parents and his sister, Rosemary Cunningham Ames, preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, R. Mae Cunningham; four children: James P. Cunningham II and his wife, Kelly, of Erie, Linda Cunningham Corsi and her husband, Mike, of Erie, Deborah Cunningham and Joe Kahlert of Tampa, FL, and Pamela Cunningham Bracken and her husband, Dale, of Athens, GA. He is survived by a brother, William R. Cunningham, and his wife, Patricia, of Erie; his sister, Dorothy Ann Cunningham, of Atlanta, GA; two grandsons, Nicholas Corsi and Anthony Cunningham, of Erie, and also several nieces, nephews, and cousins. His faithful companion is his prized pet, Biscuit, a Jack Russell Terrier.
Family and friends may visit together at Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Road, Erie, PA, on Sunday, May 20, 2007 from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Saint Julia Catholic Church at West Lake Road and Powell Avenue, Erie, PA on Monday, May 21, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. Private interment. Memorial contributions may be designated to Saint Julia Catholic Church, 638 Roslyn Ave., Erie, PA 16505.
