Elmer W. Lawrence

Elmer W. Lawrence, age 95, of Erie, passed away on May 19, 2017 at Manchester Commons. He was born in Erie on October 23, 1921, the son of the late William and Anna Genck Lawrence.  He was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church where he had been an usher and served on church council. Recently he became a member of Abiding Hope Lutheran Church.

He was employed at Specialty Pkg. until his retirement.  Prior to that he was employed with Reed Mfg. during WWII, Swanson Erie, and Marx Toys. He was a member of the Siebenbuerger Club, the Maennerchor Club, and the Elks Lodge #67.  He had been a volunteer with the Lutheran Brotherhood Erie Branch, the Salvation Army Senior Citizen Center, the Roadrunners, and was a recognized volunteer at Asbury Woods Nature Center.  He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, traveling, and spending time with his granddaughter.

Elmer was preceded in death by his first wife Bettye Hokanson Lawrence, his second wife Dorothy Gilson Lawrence, a special friend Nina Tranzillo, one grandson David Lawrence Bemis, one sister and brother-in-law Audrey and Robert Jordan.

He is survived by two daughters; Bonnie Lawrence of Niagara Falls, NY, Barbara Bemis and her husband James of Summit Twp., one granddaughter Susan Bemis and her husband Travis Mock of New York City, NY, one nephew Paul Jordan and his children Cassie and Callahan Jordan, one niece Jill Jordan Born and her husband Keith and their son Xander.

Friends may call at the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc, 4216 Sterrettania Rd. on Friday, June 2, 2017 from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and are invited to the Funeral Service at Abiding Hope Lutheran Church, 2402 West Grandview Blvd., Erie, PA 16506 on Saturday, June 3, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. Interment Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery. The family would like to express their deep appreciation to Asera Care Hospice for the excellent care they provided Elmer.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Abiding Hope Lutheran Church, Asera Care Hospice, 1600 Peninsula Dr., Suite 14, Erie, PA 16505, or to Manchester Commons, 6351 West Lake Rd, Erie, PA 16505.
