Helen G. Tyczkowski Sliker
Helen G. Tyczkowski Sliker, 77, of Girard, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, May 30, 2017, while recovering from recent surgery.
Helen was born in Erie on Jan. 6, 1940, a daughter of the late Alois and Mary (Ondus) Tyczkowski.
She met her husband Ronald (Ron) while they were both students at Academy High School. They were married on June 27, 1964, in Erie, and later moved to the Girard area in 1979 to plant gardens, raise animals, and live in the country with their children.
Helen held a variety of different jobs over the years, whether she was working on an assembly line at PHB, cleaning the church social hall or rectory at St. John's, or working in the bakery at Weislogel's. Most notably, she was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking, baking, canning and preserving fruits and vegetables for her family.
Helen loved beautiful things -- flowers and gardening (always finding new bulbs to plant), colorful hats and handbags, a sparkling chandelier. She never passed up an opportunity to bargain shop, could often be found at yard sales and was seldom without a coupon or rebate in her hand. Helen loved the Lord.
In addition to her husband of 52 years, Helen is survived by her children, Mary Sliker of Girard, Randy Sliker, VMD, his wife Theresa and their children Tanner and Hailey of Edinboro, and Jennifer Sliker and her partner Matthew Zimmer of Edinboro. She is further survived by her sisters-in-law Charlotte Schultz and her husband James (Jim) and Patricia (Pat) Onorato and her husband Richard (Dick), all of Millcreek Township, and many nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her siblings Dolores (Dory) Drozdowski and her husband John, Alois (Al) Tyczkowski, Monica Tyczkowski, Patrick (Billy) Tyczkowski and his wife Maxine, and brother-in-law Richard (Dick) Sliker and his wife Marilyn Sliker Martin.
Helen was raised in the Catholic faith and was a past member of St. John the Evangelist Church in Girard. She most recently attended Our Lady of the Lake Church in Edinboro.
"During your times of trial and suffering, when you see only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you."
