Obituary of James E. Henning

James E. (Jim) Henning, age 83, a resident of Erie for over 70 years, died on May 30, 2017 at UPMC Hamot Hospital. He was born in Wheeling, WV on May 7, 1934, to the late Floyd Edward Henning and Elizabeth (Bebout) Henning. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one daughter, Sandra (Gary) Murray and one grandson, Anthony Henning.
Jim worked as a design engineer at GE. He also worked for Kaiser Aluminum (AKW) as a plant engineer, he finished his career at Port Erie Plastics. Jim attended Asbury United Methodist Church with his wife, Mary, where they married in October of 2009. He was an avid member of the Lake Erie Mustang Owners Club where he won many awards for showing his 1964 ½ Ford Mustang Convertible. Jim was also a coach for the Chautauqua County New York Special Olympics Golf Program. He enjoyed attending antique car shows, golfing, and spending time with his family and friends, and especially spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Mary R. (Perry) Henning; six children, Gregory (Mercedes) Henning of North East, Kellie (Lamar) Roberts of Provo, Utah, Brian Henning Sr. of Irwin, PA, Kenneth (Maryanne) Henning of Erie, David (Karen) Henning of North East and Timothy (Michelle) Henning of Palm Harbor, FL; nine grandchildren, Jillian Henning, Chelsey Belden, Heidi Hauck, Amber Preston, Nick Henning, Brian Henning, Nicole Henning, Justin Henning, and Bryce Henning and one sister, Nancy (Bill) Hauck of Gulf Shores, AL. Jim also had many great-grandchildren and was dearly loved by his wife’s family, Deborah & Eric Bolling, Margaret & George Coulter, Larry Nowell, and Darlene O’Connor, along with their grandchildren and great grandchildren. A memorial service for Jim will be announced at a later date, arrangements were under the care of the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home & Crematory Inc. 4216 Sterrettania Rd.
