                                                        Earl L. Schauble

After a brief and unexpected illness, Earl L. Schauble, 99, of Millcreek, died peacefully at Ball Pavilion on November 10, 2017, where he received exceptional comfort care from the staff and with the help of Great Lakes Hospice.

Born on October 29, 1918, to the late Louis M. and Bertha M. Bock Schauble, Earl lived in Erie his entire life and was a graduate of Strong Vincent High School. In 1940 two significant events changed his life forever: he married the love of his life, Alvena Pastore, who preceded him in death (2014) after 73 years of marriage, and he began his life-long career with Northwest Electric, starting as an electrician’s apprentice, eventually becoming the company’s President/CEO, a job from which he retired in 1983. During his tenure he was the 1974 recipient of the Harrington Award from the Industrial Management Club of Erie County.

Throughout his life Earl had many notable involvements. He was a former member of the First Presbyterian Church (5th and Peach Streets) and served on the Session, Board of Trustees and Board of Deacons; he was a life member of the Erie Maennechor, Perry Keystone Lodge #392, F. & A. M., Temple Royal Arch Chapter, Jerusalem Council #33, Mount Olivet Commandery #30 Knights Templar, Zem Zem Shrine Temple, and Northwestern Pennsylvania Shrine Association. He was also a former member of the Lakeview Country Club and a former charter member of Erie Sertoma Club.

Earl loved his family and provided for them in every way possible. He was the best husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, neighbor and friend. He enjoyed sports and was an avid golfer; he also played tennis and racquet ball well into his late 80s. As he progressed in age he never stopped enjoying the simple things: caring for his property, reading the daily newspaper, monthly dinners with his friends in the “Old Geezers Club,” an ice cream at Whippy Dip or a waffle at Eat ‘N Park, a visit to the monastery for dinner with the sisters.  He enjoyed good conversation and also liked to reminisce. He was kind and considerate and remembered birthdays as well as a variety of charities.

In addition to his wife, Alvena, Earl was preceded in death by his two sisters, Ruth Holmstrom and Helen Mitchell; his brother Ralph E. Schauble, a nephew, Richard Schauble and a niece, Janet MacGurn.

Earl will be greatly missed by his family, which includes his children: Edward Schauble (Sue) of Chandler, AZ, Kathleen Pullen (Dr. Thomas) of Ann Arbor, MI, and Marilyn Schauble, OSB of Mount Saint Benedict Monastery, Erie, PA; his grandchildren: Pamela Bancroft of Chandler, AZ, Kimberly Schauble of Gaithersburg, MD, Dr. Kyle Pullen, (Dr. Regina) of Ann Arbor, MI, and Drew Pullen (Christine) of Buffalo, NY; his great-grandchildren: James and Jacob Bancroft; Juliana Pullen, Jacob Pullen, Lauren and Ryan Mitchell; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Road, Erie, PA on Saturday, November 18, 2017. Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. Burial will be private at Laurel Hill Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Benedictine Sisters of Erie, 6101 East Lake Rd, Erie, PA 16511 or Shriners Hospital for Children, 1645 W. 8th St, Erie, PA 16505.
