Obituary of John J. Thompson, Jr.

John (Jack) Thompson Jr., age 92 ½ of Fairview, PA, passed away on December 11, 2017 at UPMC-Hamot Hospital. He was born in Pittsburgh, PA on April 22, 1925 a son of the late John Thompson Sr. and Sarah Holden.
Jack worked as a salesman for NAPA in Pittsburgh and after retirement moved to Fairview, where he lived for over 20 years. He was an Episcopalian and spent much of his time in the choir, vestry and serving as a chalice bearer. Jack loved all things Pittsburgh sports, Steelers, Pirates and Penguins. He enjoyed gardening, traveling to Myrtle Beach, spending time at Sheldon Calvary Camp, cars and Coors Light.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Ida (Dot) Thompson and siblings.
He is survived by two children, Mark Thompson (Linda Walden) and Jill (Thompson) Slomski; “Pap’s” loving grandchildren, Kaitlyn Nelson (Elijah), Jonathan Slomski, Benjamin Thompson, Casey Droege; one great-granddaughter, Madeline Conway Nelson and he was a big brother to, Jean Havener and William (Bill) Thompson.
A memorial service will be held at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 1070 Dutch Rd. Fairview, PA 16415, on Saturday January 6, 2018 at 11:00 AM. Arrangements are under the care of the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home & Crematory Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Rd. Erie, PA 16506.
