Obituary of Edward F. Carter
Edward F. Carter, 92, of Fairview, PA passed away on June 14, 2018 at Fairview Manor after a brief illness. He was born in Erie to the late Edward M and Leafy Francis (Fennel) Carter on February 24, 1926.
He graduated from Academy High School in 1943 and joined the Navy. He attended Midshipman’s School where he received his commission as an Ensign in 1945. He served as an Engineering and Deck officer aboard amphibious vessels until 1946. He returned to Erie and graduated from Gannon University in 1949 majoring in accounting. He started working at Hammermill Paper Company as a Finishing Room Dispatcher, held positions in the Time Study Department and retired as the Supervisor of payroll and reports after 43 years of service. He was involved in many organizations including Boy Scouts, Erie Zoo and was instrumental in the founding of Hammermill Employees F.C.U. and held many positions. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church. Throughout his life he enjoyed many hobbies including bowling, camping, hunting, boating, traveling and spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Jean I. Carter who passed away on December 22, 2009.
He is survived by two sons, Edward E. Carter and his wife Jean of Fairview with whom he resided with the past five years and Dale M. Carter and wife Donna of Erie; three grandchildren, Edward S. (Dee) Carter, April J. LaRiccia and her husband Joe all of Erie and Stephen J. Carter of Arlington, VA. He is further survived by seven great-grandchildren, Ryan Carter, Erin Carter, Jordan LaRiccia, Brett Carter, Shane LaRiccia, Kyle Carter and Angel LaRiccia; one great-great-grandson Owen Weary and his beloved Kitty, Mini.
Friends may call at the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home & Crematory Inc. 4216 Sterrettania Rd., on Saturday from 1:00 to 4:00 PM and are invited to a prayer service there on Monday morning at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow in Erie Cemetery.
