John "Jack" E. Alward, Sr.


John E. Alward, Sr., age 80, of Millcreek Twp. died suddenly Sunday, December 4, 2011 while wintering in Laughlin, NV. He was born in Erie on August 10, 1931, the son of the late, Floyd W. and Martha H. Volk Alward.


He served in the US Air Force during the Korean War. He was employed at and retired from AMSCO in 1989 after 34 years of service. He had been a founding member of Our Lady of Peace R.C. Church since 1956. He enjoyed gardening, gambling, traveling, and was a cable TV news junkie.


He is survived by his wife, Jean Marie Hoehn Alward, since Sept. 1952, his children: Edward J. Alward (Karen), Douglas M. Alward (Suki), John Alward, Jr. (Kim), Timothy Lee Alward (Lori), Debra Ann Bayle (Tom), three sisters: Joanne Anderson, Karen Golden, Marjorie McClellan, ten grandchildren: Lisa Crilley, Michael, Jeremy, Jenifer, John III, Abbey, and Joseph Alward, Heather, Anthoney, and Tayler Bayle, twelve great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother Richard Alward.


Friends may call at the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Rd. on Friday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. and are invited there on Saturday for prayers at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Peace at 10:00 a.m. Interment Laurel Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 823 Filmore Avenue, Erie, PA 16505 or the John Kanzius Cancer Research Foundation, 130 West 8th Street, Suite 216, Erie, PA 16501.
