Obituary of Bernadette Ann Hutzler

Bernadette Ann Hutzler, peacefully passed away at her home, surrounded by her family on November 11, 2018 at the age of 100.  She was born in Oil City, PA on March 13, 1918 to the late Frank and Mary (Carr) Guth.  She graduated from St. Joseph High School in Oil City in 1936.  Bernadette married Richard A. Hutzler on September 7, 1940 and they moved to Erie in 1956.

 

She was a loving mother and grandmother.  Bernadette was a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church.  She loved reading, knitting, traveling, going to garage sales and most of all – her family.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard in 1979; two sons, John in 1978 and William in 1995; three sisters, Mary Ada Guth and Geraldine Morse of Oil City and Anne Leroux of Long Beach, CA; three brothers, Frank and George Guth of Oil City and John Guth of Los Angeles, CA.  She is further preceded in death by two daughters-in-law, Lucille Hutzler and Evelyn Hutzler Eichenlaub.

 

Bernadette retired from the Shriner’s Hospital for Children.  She had been a member of the Leisure Club at Our Lady of Peace, Asbury Senior Group, AARP of Millcreek and the Good Timers Senior Group of St. Pauls’ Church.

 

Survivors include two sons, Richard Hutzler (Gail) of North Canton, OH and Joseph Hutzler (Becky) Hutzler of Erie; two daughters, Mary Ann Bull (Dean) of North East, PA and Kathy Paluh (Jim) of Fairview, PA.  She is also survived by fifteen grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, ten great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. 

 

Friends may call at the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home & Crematory Inc. 4216 Sterrettania Rd., on Thursday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 PM and are invited to a prayer service there on Friday morning at 9:15 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church at 10:00 AM.  Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery. 

 

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church 2401 West 38th St. Erie, PA 16506.
