LYLE ROGER LEE
L. Roger Lee, age 75, passed on, November 26, 2018. He died peacefully at home, following a courageous battle with cancer. He will be missed by his wife and best friend Geraldine Gustafson Lee and his step-children, Michael and Doug Karle, and Jill Karle Gerard; her husband Philip and children; His family: children, Roger, Lonnie, Christopher, Lisa, and Jamie Lee and their families, and 17 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; Grace Farella, mother of his children; Linda Lee and Lew Hinkle; Michelle Lee and Eric Russin; Michael; Tim and Connie Lee; their families; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. A dear Scottish friend, Terry, whom he respected and cared about and spent many hours on the internet playing golf; and his internet golf club friends from across the country.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lyle and June Lee; brothers, Gary and Kevin Lee; his precious grandson, Donaven; and his beloved dog, Baby.
After his school years, Roger enlisted in the US Navy. He worked for several Erie businesses, specializing in metal polishing. Years later, he worked at the Barber National Institute for 13 years as a caregiver in the Supported Living Program. Roger believed he was called to this. He brought kindness, compassion, joy, and laughter to the lives of others. His only regret was that he didn't discover his true calling until later in his life.
Roger had a long list of favorite things: his cottage by the lake with his wife by his side; Presque Isle, where he fished, hiked, explored, and watched the breathtaking sunsets; long walks with his curious dog, Baby, a lover of nature and wildlife; sports, especially the Pittsburgh Steelers; spur of the moment adventures with no destination; gallivanting around to yard sales looking for bargains; cooking and baking and eating; music of all kinds and singing along, especially on our long rides; talking and striking up conversations everywhere he went; making people laugh; optimism.
Gerry would like to thank family and friends for their untiring acts of kindness. Special gratitude goes to Lakeland Hospice, the dedicated nurses, staff, and Chaplain John for their compassionate care and to the medical staff at the Regional Cancer Center.
