Dr. Chester Francis Battersby
Dr. Chester F. Battersby, D.C., age 94, of Millcreek Twp., passed away on Tuesday, December 18, 2018 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on June 26, 1924 in Cleveland, OH, the son of the late Isaac Newton and Betsy Hunt Battersby.
Chester served in the US Army-Air Corp during WWII. He was a graduate of the National Chiropractic College in Lombard, IL and received his pre-med education at Gannon College.
He owned and practiced at his own chiropractic clinic at 10th and Myrtle Streets for many years and was part owner of the Battersby Convalescent Home. He was a member of the F. & A. M., Perry Keystone Lodge #392, a member of the Erie Zem Zem Shrine Club, a member of the Legion of Honor (military) through the Zem Zem Shrine Club, a member of the York and Scottish Rites, and the Erepa Grotto. He also belonged to the Elks Club, was a former board member of the Boys and Girls Club, and a member of Luther Memorial Church.
He enjoyed boating, reading, and was a history buff.
He was preceded in death by one infant brother Richard Battersby, one sister Ethel Winterhalter, six brothers: George, Ed, Budd, Daun, Gene, and Jack Battersby.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years Alice J. Christensen Battersby, two daughters Dawn C. Carstensen (Phil) of Ellicott City, MD, Pamela L. Latronica (Al) of Jamison, PA, two sons; Peter Newton Battersby (Gayle R.) of Roswell, GA, Chester F. Battersby, Jr. of Millcreek Twp., four grandchildren: Stephany, Danielle, Brittany, Anthony, two great-grandchildren; Penny and R.J., and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Rd. on Friday, December 21, 2018 from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and are invited to Luther Memorial Church, 225 West 10th. Street, Erie, PA 16501 on Saturday, December 22, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. for the Funeral Service. Interment with military honors at Laurel Hill Cemetery.
