Obituary of Elizabeth A. McCaslin
Elizabeth A. Kirk McCaslin
Elizabeth A. McCaslin, known as “Ann” by most, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 20, 2018 at Elmwood Gardens Nursing Home at the age of 83. Ann was born in New Brighton, PA, Beaver County, on January 30, 1935, the daughter of the late James H. and Eleanor V. Hartman Kirk.
Ann graduated from Lincoln H.S. in Ellwood City, PA where she met Cal McCaslin. She was a graduate of Jameson Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in New Castle, PA. A resident of Millcreek Twp. since 1962, Ann was employed at Hamot Hospital, a career spanning over 30 years. Much of her career was spent as a mental health RN at the Hamot Institute of Behavioral Health. She was a member of a community crisis team which responded to the Albion, PA tornado.
Ann was always the caretaker; nurturing, empathetic, with a gentle soul. She had the ability to remain calm in the most trying of circumstances. Ann was known in the neighborhood as the one to go to in time of need for anything from butterfly stitches to a compassionate shoulder to lean on. You could always count on Ann, but those who knew and loved Ann realized she would arrive on “Ann time”.
Her love of flowers and nature drew her to be a member of the Presque Isle Garden Club, where she made many friends. You could always count on Ann, but you could not count on exactly when she would show up.
Ann was married to Cal McCaslin for 50 years. Together they had three children; a son Kirk W. McCaslin (Margaret), a daughter Tracey L. Weidner (Len), a son Kevin P. McCaslin (Kelly), seven grandchildren: Christopher Pearson, Sara McGovern, Alex Pearson, Daniel McCaslin, Philip Weidner, Connor McCaslin, Megan Weidner, a special niece Kristie and nephew Mark. She is also survived by her beloved sister Susan Stayduhar. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Calvin McCaslin. Ann’s family would like to express their gratitude for the compassionate care which Ann received at Elmwood Gardens and from AseraCare.
