Michael G. Domsic
Michael G. Domsic, age 91, passed away on Friday, November 30, 2012 at St. Mary's East. He was born in Canonsburg, PA on October 2, 1921, the son of the late Thomas and Mary (Zivcic) Domsic.
He moved to Erie in 1947. He served in the United States Army during WW II enlisting in 1942 and discharged in 1945. He was employed at General Electric Building 6 where he worked for thirty-six years until his retirement in 1983. He was a member of Our Lady of Peace Roman Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed woodworking and gardening. He supplied many friends and family with everlasting gifts of woodworking treasures including: birdhouses, swings, benches, and other special creations from his workshop in the garage. He was an avid gardener who loved to spend time outdoors. He provided free auto repair to family and friends. He was proud to be a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a man of tremendous strength and loyalty, placing his family as a priority.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Elizabeth (Bistarky) Domsic, whom he married on July 26, 1947, three children: Dennis Michael (Judie Hermsen), of Iowa City, Iowa, Kenneth Gerard (Gabrielle) and Mary Lynn (Kevin) Slivinski, both of Erie, six grandchildren: Robyn Therese Domsic, MD (Kenneth Fasanella, MD), of Pittsburgh, PA, Jeffrey Kenneth Domsic, PHD (Ronita Marple, PHD), of Cincinnati, OH, Gregory Michael Domsic, of Erie, Robert Timothy Domsic (Andrea), of Iowa City, Iowa, John Francis Domsic, PHD (Brittney Gurda, PHD), of Philadelphia, PA, Kayla Elizabeth Slivinski, of Erie, and two great-grandchildren; Collin Edward and Kathryn Rose Fasanella. He was preceded in death by ten brothers and sisters: Anna Modrak, Elizabeth Woyicki, Mary Ozga, Sr. Francis Xavier, Margaret Henderson, Alice Vitale, Joseph Domsic, Thomas Domsic, Dorothy Zampan, Evan Domsic, and two adopted brothers; Michael and Pete Benic.
Friends may call at the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Rd. on Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. and are invited there on Monday for prayers at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Peace Church at 10:00 a.m. Interment Gate of Heaven Cemetery with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Domsic Family endowed scholarship in honor of Michael and Betty Domsic at Gannon University, Advancement Office, 109 University Square, Erie, PA 16541 or the loving care facility of St. Mary's Home East, 607 East 26th Street, Erie, PA 16504.
