Edward C. Engel


Edward C. Engel, age 91, of Millcreek Twp. formerly of Fairview Twp. died Wednesday January 28, 2009 at the Erie Veterans Affairs Medical Center after a brief illness. He was born in Erie on March 10, 1917, the son of the late, John D. and Ida Greiner Engel.


He served in the US Marine Corp. in the Pacific Theater, 5th Battalion Division at Iwo Jima. He received the Purple Heart and the Good Conduct Medal. Ed was employed at and retired from Titan Tool Co. after 39 years of employment. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament R.C. Church and the Zukor Club. He enjoyed electronics, spending time with his family, and playing the accordion.


Ed is survived by his wife of 58 years, Gloria S. Fagan Engel, one daughter, Karen M. Bootes (C. James) of Millcreek, two grandchildren, Kimberly G. Mullen (Daniel) of Gibsonia, PA and Jeffrey A. Bootes (Dawn) of Summit Twp., 3 great- grandchildren: James and Joseph Mullen and Kyle Bootes, and one step great-grandson, Gunnar Emberg, one sister-in-law, Phyllis Bootes, one brother-in-law, Ronald Bootes, and several nieces and nephews. Two brothers, John A. and Arthur C. Engel preceded him in death.


Private visitation and service. Interment Laurel Hill Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Rd. Memorial contributions may be made to the VNA of Erie County, 2253 West Grandview Blvd., Erie, PA 16506.
