Attilio Thomas "Tom" Fachetti


Attilio "Tom" Fachetti, age 92, of Erie, died Wednesday, June 9, 2010 at his Erie residence after a brief illness. He was born on September 16, 1917, in Burndale, PA, the son of the late, John and Marietta Fachetti.


He attended Strong Vincent High School, and in his youth sailed the Great Lakes on freighters and later worked in the Civilian Conservation Corps. During World War II, he served as a navigator in the Army Air Corps and received the Distinguished Flying Cross and four Air Medals. After retiring as a career officer in the US Air Force, he attended Edinboro University and taught Special Education at Edison Elementary and mathematics at East High School from 1964-1978. He was a 45 year member of the Erie Golf Course.


He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Lucille M. Resignola Fachetti, two children; Thomas Fachetti (Gail) of Fairview, Donna Fachetti of Arlington, VA, two grandchildren; Michael and Paul Fachetti, one sister, Blanche Mauro of Pitcairn, PA and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by four brothers: Joseph, Leo, Carlo, and Richard Fachetti and two sisters; Antoinette Krainski and Esther Oleski, all of Erie.


Friends may call at the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Rd. on Friday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. and are invited to Blessed Sacrament R.C. Church on Saturday at 12:15 p.m. for the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be at Laurel Hill Cemetery at a future date.
