Obituary of Sandra Marie Reid

Sandra “Sandy” Marie Butkowski Reid Sandra “Sandy” Marie Butkowski Reid, age 72, of Millcreek Twp., was born on June 8, 1948 in New Castle, PA, the daughter of the late Henry and Clara Zaleski Butkowski. She passed away at St. Vincent Hospital on Sunday, January 31, 2021 with her husband, Robert, by her side. Sandy was a graduate of New Castle H.S. and New Castle Business College where she went on to work for many doctors’ offices and she taught at New Castle Business College. She became active in the American Association of Medical Assistants and was the PA state President for the association and was offered a job at PA Blue Shield as a Provider Relations Representative and earned herself the name “Sandy Blue Shield”. She dedicated 33 years to the company; seeing many changes in her time and she finally retired from Highmark in 2010. After retirement, she took a great intertest in serving St. George Catholic Church as a sacristan, Eucharistic minister, and a member of the shawl ministry. Sandy also became very active at St. Marks Seminary Ladies Auxiliary. She was an avid cook; always ready to cook for a small army and loved to crochet. Her all time favorite activity was showing off her handsome grandson. She is survived by her loving husband of 38 years, Robert, one daughter Stephanie McMichael (Gordon), her grandson Gordy, and many cousins whom she has reconnected with across the country. Friends are invited to call at the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Rd. (with all Covid-19 precautions enforced) on Thursday, February 4, 2021 from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. and are invited there for prayers on Friday, February 5, 2021 at 9:15 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at St. George R.C. Church, 5145 Peach Street, Erie at 10:00 a.m. Interment Mary Queen of Peace Cemetery. A Memorial event will be held at a time when it is safe to gather. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. George Shawl Ministry, 5145 Peach Street, Erie, PA 16509.
